War-displaced young Sudanese turn to entrepreneurship to survive

Displaced by Sudan's civil war and shut out of formal jobs, young Sudanese are launching small businesses and initiatives to survive. Yousra Hussein, who fled Nyala for Kassala, revived her Golden Women project to help women earn income. But funding, training and registration barriers persist as extreme poverty rose from 33% in 2022 to 59% in 2025, the World Bank estimates.
