Christa Pike Survives Two Lethal Injections in Failed Execution

Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike, 50, was taken to hospital after her heart kept beating following two lethal injections of pentobarbital on Wednesday, her lawyer said. Her legal team filed an emergency motion to halt the execution mid-procedure, saying she had lost consciousness but was still breathing and audibly snoring. Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for murdering 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
