US jobless claims fall to 197,000, lowest since mid-July

Initial U.S. unemployment claims fell to 197,000 last week, the lowest since mid-July, as layoffs remain historically rare. The four-week average dropped to 200,000, the Labor Department said. Employers have added an average of 80,000 jobs a month this year, and September's jobs report is expected next week.
