A UK-Mauritius treaty granting Mauritius sovereignty over the Chagos Islands and allowing Chagossian resettlement outside Diego Garcia has yet to enter force, stalled by US opposition and unfinished British legislation. Renewed talks in London have revived hopes, but ageing Chagossians, displaced decades ago, fear they may never see their homeland again.
