The Federation of Indian Pilots has asked the Prime Minister's Office to consider Captain Smit Machchhar, pilot-in-command of flydubai Flight FZ1073, for a national bravery award. He was seriously injured when his first officer attacked him with a crash axe mid-flight on September 30, yet kept control and diverted the Dubai-Tel Aviv service safely to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, with 174 passengers and eight crew aboard.
