The United Arab Emirates says the co-pilot of Flydubai flight FZ1073 attempted a "terrorist attack" on Wednesday, using a cockpit crash axe against the captain and trying to seize the controls. Passengers and crew subdued him after the Israel-bound plane plunged about 17,000 feet and diverted to Saudi Arabia. The co-pilot, reportedly Omani national Hamam al-Hammami, had been barred from flying by Oman Air over extremist views.
