India's General Insurance Council is considering a 10% co-payment on admissible inpatient hospitalisation costs in retail health policies from January 1, 2027. Policyholders would bear 10% of the bill, capped at Rs 5 lakh per claim, with lower premiums. The plan also includes common hospital empanelment and a dispute resolution mechanism. OPD claims remain outside its scope.
