A 15-year-old boy lost his hand during clashes between police and protesters near a school in Lens, northern France, on Monday. The prefect of Pas-de-Calais said the teenager's life is not in danger. Around 500 schools were partially or fully closed nationwide as students protested over building conditions and staffing. An investigation by the police watchdog IGPN is underway.
