Siberia Lab Death Sparks Bubonic Plague Fears

Russian authorities imposed anti-epidemic measures after a laboratory worker in Siberia died of a mysterious illness feared to be bubonic plague, though the cause remains unconfirmed. About 200 people are under quarantine and observation. Bubonic plague is treatable with antibiotics and is not considered a pandemic-level threat, but the pneumonic form can spread person to person and is highly fatal without treatment.
