France school protests spread as police use tear gas

Hundreds of thousands protested across France as high-school student demonstrations widened to parents, university students and unions. Police used tear gas in Paris and Marseille and water cannon in Rennes. The government reported disruption in 891 high schools and over 250,000 demonstrators; unions cited 450,000 and 1,800 blockaded schools. Further protests are planned for Thursday.
