German labour minister Bärbel Bas quits over attacks during grief

Germany's labour minister and Social Democrat co-leader Bärbel Bas has resigned both posts, citing her stepdaughter's death and political attacks that intensified during her bereavement, including from coalition partner CDU lawmakers. SPD co-leader Lars Klingbeil called the sniping indecent and cancelled a trip to India. The resignation is another blow to Chancellor Friedrich Merz's fragile coalition.
