Argentina Closes Iguazu Falls as El Niño Swells River

Argentina temporarily closed tourist access to Iguazu Falls after heavy rain, driven by a strong El Niño, made the Iguazu River flow at six times its normal rate. The national park director cited continuous rain and upstream dam releases. Officials said the area would reopen Tuesday as water levels gradually decline. The falls, a Unesco site on the Argentina-Brazil border, have faced similar closures in 2023 and 2024.
