Researchers Reach Remote Island in Amelia Earhart Wreckage Search

A team from the Archaeological Legacy Institute and Purdue University arrived Monday at Nikumaroro Island in Kiribati to inspect possible wreckage of Amelia Earhart's plane, which vanished in 1937. The five-day expedition will examine the Taraia Object, spotted in 2020 satellite imagery. Giant coconut crabs and El Niño conditions may hamper the search, forcing the crew to sleep aboard their ship.
