Supreme Court Issues Notice on CEC, EC Immunity Challenge

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Centre and the Election Commission on a plea by the Association for Democratic Reforms challenging Section 16 of the 2023 law that grants the CEC and ECs immunity from civil and criminal proceedings for official acts. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, tagged the petition with a similar plea by Lok Prahari. ADR argues the provision violates Articles 14 and 19 and undermines accountability.
