The Centre has extended the service tenure of Agniveers from four to six years, Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani announced. The 25% selected on merit will still be absorbed into the regular armed forces, while the remaining 75% can now serve two additional years. The Agnipath scheme was introduced on June 14, 2022.
