Paraguay lower house unanimously impeaches President Peña after resignation

Paraguay's lower house voted 78-0 to impeach President Santiago Peña minutes after he announced his resignation Thursday, following the collapse of Ueno Bank that froze millions of people's savings and sparked three days of protests in Asunción. The vote sends charges to the Senate, where a two-thirds majority is needed to convict. Vice President Pedro Alliana was expected to assume power later Thursday.
