Nithya Raman ousts Karen Bass in Los Angeles mayoral race

Democratic socialist Nithya Raman has defeated incumbent Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayoral race, with Bass conceding on Thursday as returns showed Raman leading 52% to 48%. The councilmember, once seen as a long shot, tapped voter frustration over homelessness, housing costs and the city's direction to unseat a rival she had previously endorsed.
