Indian-born urban planner Nithya Raman has won the Los Angeles mayoral race, defeating incumbent Karen Bass and becoming the first Asian-American to lead the city. A democratic socialist, she campaigned on expanding affordable housing, tackling homelessness and protecting immigrants. Her victory comes as Democrats swept the US midterms, with three of the world's most influential cities now led by South Asian leaders.
