Congress demands scrapping of Agnipath scheme, cites security concerns

The Congress party on Friday called for the scrapping of the Agnipath scheme, alleging it has weakened India's security and led to a shortage of over two lakh soldiers. The demand comes two days after the government announced a two-year extension for exiting Agniveers and subsequent permanent recruitment. Congress also sought retrospective benefits for the 25 percent of Agniveers made regular and other welfare measures.
