Dhanteras gold sales surge as prices fall from record highs

Jewellers reported brisk Dhanteras demand as gold prices dropped 20 per cent from January's record, with sales value expected to rise 15-20 per cent to about Rs 60,000 crore. Volumes are seen roughly flat year-on-year, as prices remain above last year's levels. Consumers favoured lightweight 18-carat jewellery, coins and smaller cities, while silver sales are expected to climb 30 per cent in value.
