Researchers at Dartmouth College found that the most enjoyable conversations balance exploring a topic with pulling in fresh ideas, a pattern they call 'pink noise.' Analyzing over 1,000 chats between strangers, friends and speed-daters, they linked more pink noise to greater enjoyment and stronger connection. In speed-dating, it even predicted second dates. The findings appear in Science Advances.
