An Indian Air Force IL-76MD heavy transport aircraft, known as Gajraj, landed at Nyoma airfield in eastern Ladakh at 13,629 feet, the highest touchdown ever recorded for the type worldwide. The airfield, about 46 kilometres from the Line of Actual Control, can handle battle tanks and heavy equipment, strengthening rapid deployment near the China frontier.
