Israeli media reports say Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad chief Roman Gofman planned an operation against Iran days before Israel's October 27 election, but the plan was exposed to Washington by an operative and halted by US intervention. Security officials, including IDF chief Eyal Zamir, opposed the move, fearing escalation. Netanyahu's office denied the account.
