Democratic Socialist Nithya Raman Wins Los Angeles Mayoral Race

Nithya Raman, a democratic socialist, has ousted incumbent Karen Bass to become Los Angeles mayor-elect after a stunning upset. She won no endorsements from her 14 city council colleagues, and the police union and Democratic establishment opposed her. Raman says homelessness, housing costs and public safety will be her priorities when she takes office in mid-December.
