Global food prices hit three-year high on heatwaves and wars

Global food prices reached their highest level in three and a half years in July, driven by heatwaves damaging wheat yields and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East disrupting exports. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization's index rose to 131.1 points, with cereal prices up 3.4% and sugar up 5.6%. The World Food Programme warns that 50 million people could face acute hunger by next year due to El Niño.
