Solar farms in Minnesota planted with native wildflowers and grasses saw insect abundance triple and native bees increase twentyfold, according to a five-year Argonne National Laboratory study. The habitat also attracted 73 bird species. Researchers say such plantings cost less than gravel over a solar farm's 25-year life, but most U.S. solar sites still lack pollinator habitat.
