First Object Recovered from Orbit in 1960

On Aug. 11, 1960, the Discoverer 13 capsule became the first human-made object recovered from orbit. Launched by the U.S. as part of the Corona spy satellite program, it splashed down in the Pacific and was retrieved by the Navy, paving the way for modern spaceflight.
