Philippines' first satellite launched 29 years ago

On Aug. 19, 1997, the Philippines launched its first satellite, Agila-2, aboard a Chinese Long March 3B rocket. Named after the Philippine eagle, it provided powerful coverage in Asia and the Pacific. Sold in 2009, it marked a milestone in the nation's space journey, leading to later satellites and the Philippine Space Agency.
