A collection of 688 handwritten notes by Mahatma Gandhi, written between 1944 and 1946 for close aide Anand T Hingorani, sold for $1.69m (Rs 16.20 crore) at a Saffronart auction in Mumbai, setting a world record for an Indian historical document. The notes offer personal guidance and consolation after Hingorani's wife's death, compiled later as 'A Thought for the Day'. The buyer, an Indian, will keep the manuscript in India.
