Milan Pradhan, Congress candidate for the October 6 Nandigram bypoll, was arrested Friday and remanded to judicial custody until October 3 over four pending cases from the 2007 anti-land acquisition movement, including murder and rioting. Congress refused to withdraw him, alleging political targeting after Mamata Banerjee backed his candidacy. The BJP denies the charges.
