Israeli President Isaac Herzog pardoned Elor Azaria, a former combat medic convicted of manslaughter for shooting dead a wounded Palestinian attacker in Hebron in 2016. The decision, opposed by military chief Eyal Zamir, cited the passage of time, Azaria's remorse, and the spirit of Yom Kippur. Defense Minister Israel Katz welcomed the pardon.
