Merz Vows to Stay After CDU's German State Election Losses

Chancellor Friedrich Merz has vowed to remain in office despite heavy losses for his Christian Democratic Union in two German state elections. The far-right Alternative für Deutschland won nearly 38% in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, while the leftwing Die Linke was on course to win Berlin with about 25%. Merz called the results a "disaster" but pledged to continue his reform agenda.
