Albanese launches Australia's bid for UN Security Council seat

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has formally launched Australia's bid for a two-year UN Security Council term in 2029-30, vying with Finland for a Western Europe and Others group seat. He also named former News Corp broadcasting head Siobhan McKenna as consul general to New York. A vote is expected in mid-2028, requiring two-thirds support from the 193 member states.
