Hurricane Polo exploded into a Category 5 storm within 24 hours of forming, becoming the strongest ever recorded in the eastern Pacific. The National Hurricane Center reported sustained winds of 265 kmph and a central pressure below 900, a level seen in only nine hurricanes in 76 years. It is expected to brush Mexico's southwestern coast.
