Arunachal Hydropower Project Cleared Despite 1.35 Lakh Trees to Be Felled

An expert panel has recommended environmental clearance for a hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh that will divert over 2,700 hectares of forest and fell more than 1.35 lakh trees. Compensatory afforestation is proposed on degraded forest land in Madhya Pradesh, nearly 1,700 km away, raising concerns about ecological impact and wildlife migration.
