Venezuela frees 39 political prisoners after US-backed talks

Venezuela released 39 political prisoners between Friday and Saturday, rights group JEP said, following a second round of US-backed negotiations between the interim government of Delcy Rodriguez and the opposition. The releases included eight women accused of narco-terrorism and six accused of working with the US in a 2020 plot against former President Nicolas Maduro. Foro Penal says 344 people remain classified as political prisoners.
