Thousands of home batteries across Vermont now form the state's largest power source, a virtual power plant run by utility Green Mountain Power. More than 5,500 households pay $55 monthly for two batteries, gaining backup during outages. The US has over 40GW of virtual power plant capacity, with 160GW possible by 2030.
