Indian customs are investigating a surge in soybean imports declared as originating in Niger, suspecting the cargoes came from Nigeria and were mislabelled to avoid a 45% import tariff. Niger, which produces almost no soybeans, was India's biggest declared supplier in the first seven months of 2026, with shipments reaching 380,868 tons from zero a year earlier.
