Astronomers discover rare 'phoenix planet' orbiting dead star

Astronomers led by the University of Warwick have found a rare second-generation planet orbiting a white dwarf, the collapsed core of a dead star. The planet around white dwarf HS 0209+0832 appears built from material its star cast off, with NASA's TESS detecting a brightness signal every 4.4 days. Published in Nature Astronomy, it may be the first confirmed white dwarf hosting a reborn world.
