French student protests persist over school funding and staffing

French high school students have protested for over two weeks against overcrowded classrooms and staff shortages, with clashes and more than 6,100 arrests since September 21. France spends 5.1 percent of GDP on education, above the EU average, yet about 11 percent of secondary teachers are unqualified and classes average 26 pupils.
