Malnutrition and Cachexia Linked to Poorer Survival in HCC

A study of hepatocellular carcinoma patients treated with sorafenib found that GLIM-defined malnutrition and cachexia were independently associated with shorter overall survival. Cachexia showed significant separation of survival curves, while malnutrition did not. Systemic inflammation was strongly linked to poor prognosis, suggesting malnutrition in HCC is part of a metabolic inflammatory syndrome.
