Pakistan Cabinet Backs Emergency Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pakistan's Federal Cabinet has unanimously recommended that President Asif Ali Zardari invoke Articles 232 and 234, paving the way for emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi cited a 195 per cent surge in terrorist activity since March 2024 and a breakdown in counterterrorism coordination with the PTI-led provincial government. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi rejected the move and told provincial officials to ignore federal orders.
