Soviet Union Launches Voskhod 1 with Three Cosmonauts

On October 12, 1964, the Soviet Union launched Voskhod 1, the first multi-person crewed spaceflight. The mission lasted 24 hours and set multiple records, including the first spaceflight without spacesuits because the cramped capsule could not accommodate them. Two crew members, an engineer and a doctor, became the first civilians in space.
