Hundreds of thousands are expected to march across France as unions stage a nationwide strike over budget cuts and living costs, with hospital, air traffic, rail and postal staff joining. Some 70,000 police were deployed as demonstrations began in Marseille, Grenoble and Lyon, and high school students blockaded schools over overcrowded classes and dilapidated buildings.
