Using Hubble Space Telescope data, astronomers studied 37 nearby dwarf galaxies and found they retained only about 11% of the oxygen their stars produced, with individual galaxies holding between 4% and 25%. Researchers say galactic winds driven by massive stars and supernovae likely blew the rest into intergalactic space, challenging current models of galaxy evolution.
