Denmark recovers data centre waste heat to warm homes

Engineers in Denmark are capturing 100 percent of the waste heat from an AI supercomputer and piping it into a town's district heating network. The liquid cooling system, designed by Danfoss, serves the 75,000 residents of Sonderborg. Data centres worldwide consumed 485 terawatt hours of electricity in 2024, and the IEA expects that share to double by 2030.
