Global oceans hit record heat in July as El Niño builds

The world's oceans recorded their hottest July on record, with average sea surface temperatures reaching 20.96°C, according to the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service. The heat, fueled by developing El Niño conditions and human-driven warming, contributed to extreme wildfires and drought across western Europe, where June and July were the hottest on record.
