US appeals court allows lawsuits against social media companies to proceed

A U.S. appeals court on Monday allowed thousands of lawsuits against Meta, Google, TikTok, and other social media companies to proceed, rejecting their early appeal. The companies had argued Section 230 shields them from claims that they designed addictive products for young users. The court said the appeal was premature, as most appeals come after trial. The lawsuits allege the platforms contribute to a youth mental health crisis.
