Microsoft retreats in China but AI boom keeps window open

Microsoft has closed at least 15 China branch offices and joint ventures in the past five years, hit by Beijing's push for domestic software and U.S. export restrictions. The company considered quitting China in 2023 but has no current exit plans, instead finding a profitable line servicing Chinese companies going global.
