The UK government defended its seizure of the Russian shadow fleet tanker MT Smyrtos, saying it acted in full accordance with international law. This follows President Putin's threat to respond in kind to such actions. The vessel, boarded by Royal Marines in June, is accused of carrying sanctioned Russian oil.
